The Creeping Bent Organisation is delighted to announce the 20th anniversary reissue of the debut album by The Leopards - They Tried Staying Calm. The album is released on CD and features the original packaging.

The Leopards play a rare live gig to celebrate the reissue, at the Old Hairdressers, Glasgow, on 23rd Nov.

The Leopards emerged from the fertile scene associated with the 1990s re-emergence of Postcard Records, making their live debut at Postcard’s short-lived Fin de Siecle club, which took place in the city’s RAF Club. Leopards’ vocalist / guitarist / writer Mick Slaven had previously played with Jazzateers and Bourgie Bourgie, both of whom were associated with the label, whilst bassist Campbell Owens was a mainstay in Aztec Camera on their two 7” singles released on Postcard (Just Like Gold and Mattress of Wire).

John Peel was a massive fan of the Leopards, regularly comparing Slaven’s guitar playing to that of Link Wray and Robert Quine. The Leopards recorded two Peel sessions for BBC Radio 1, also recording sessions for BBC Radio London and BBC Radio Scotland.

In the intervening years The Leopards have worked live and in the studio with other artists involved with Postcard Records, including James Kirk (Orange Juice), Paul Haig (Josef K), Paul Quinn & The Independent Group, Vic Godard, Malcolm Ross (Josef K), before finally releasing their second album, Never Been The Same, in 2011 to further critical acclaim. On hearing the Leopards work with Vic Godard, Lloyd Cole asked the group to work with him, resulting in touring and a live album - Lloyd Cole & The Leopards.

The Leopards are currently putting the final touches to their third album, due for release in 2018.
